Yesterday’s events came almost out of nowhere. A tornado shook up our city and while our house lost only a few shingles, not everyone was so lucky.
Earlier yesterday afternoon the kids and I headed down to the Planet Earth celebration(which I’ll blog about tomorrow). We knew it was gonna rain but the weather was surprisingly good.
The hubs was at work, which is a once a quarter deal If even that.
Within two hours of being home, Daddy Roo calls me and says there’s a tornado coming. A WHAT?!
I grabbed some food, water, my laptop and flashlights and woke the baby up then we all headed to the safest room in our house. which was unfortunately a poweder room that had to fit three of us AND an eighty pound dog. I heard it pass through although I don’t think the actual funnel went over us. neverthesless, there was lots of noise and hail and heneral scariness.
When it was over… well actually my phone had no service so i realied on social media to keep up. Our really awesome news station has a Weather on the Ones facebook page (that Fadra told me about funny enough) and I watched that and Twitter to know when it was safe to come out.
I love theat social media kept me up to date. our cable was out and i was stuck in a closet so what was I gona do? thank you social media.
And now I’m thinking of all of those worst affected than me. Sending prayers.
I’m definitely feeling grateful.

I can relate. I’ve been through the same thing. Our home only a few shingles were blown off. But that was not the case just a few blocks away. Glad you are safe with minimal damage.

Sounds scary! I guess it’s good that you get some warning, but they can be really unpredictable, right? (Never seen a tornado, myself). Glad you are all safe and sound.

For some odd reason, I didn’t feel worried at all but we also went into our powder room. Me, my big husband, my son, my dog, my cat, and the crib mattress we’re trying to sell. I was tweeting a bit and was even called hardcore for live tweeting a tornado. I just didn’t know what else to do with myself!
Glad you guys are okay. I’m sorry that you had damage. I think we came out unscathed!
The idea of hiding in my bathroom from a tornado completely freaks me out. I’ve never lived in an area where that was an issue, so I just can’t imagine it. If I ever had to, I definitely wouldn’t do it without my phone. God bless twitter!
Glad everything is okay.
I am so glad to hear you are ok. It must have been so scary but it sounds like you were quite the superwoman!

Glad everyone is ok. So scary all of the storms we are hearing about. Living in Iowa we have twisters on occasion and the siren a lot, but have never seen one up close and personal, at least not yet. Knock on wood. I’ve never known anyone that was affected either.

I was watching the events in your area unfold via weather channel yesterday afternoon. I am still shocked by the pictures and stories that I’m hearing about everything today. So glad that you are safe & praying for the families affected by it all. Such a tragedy.

Suddenly all the pain of rehabing this house was worth it– because we have a basement.
That said, I’ve never been so annoyed with rechargeable batteries (that weren’t, you know, charged). Definitely need a better survival kit down there.
Glad you and your family are safe. I hope your neighborhood are also safe. House damage can be repair but lost lives cannot be regain again. Prayers to your community!
