Dear wide-eyed Little Roo,
From the moment I held you, I couldn’t get enough.
And when you started sleeping through the night at just three months old? HEAVEN! We were both feeling pretty refreshed on most nights.
But something changed a few weeks ago…
… you began waking up multiple times a night, standing in your crib and wailing as you gripped the rail like a mini-prisoner on the Island of Mean Mama Why Do You Make Me Sleep.
(I promise that if I ever did have an island, we’d do nothing BUT sleep)
… you began squirming and arching your back when Daddy Roo or I try to rock you, even as you rub your eyes.
(I promise there is no baby version of Twister)
… you began taking short, short naps during the day
(I promise you aren’t missing anything like a magical fountain of breastmilk or a padded room of nothing but teething toys and big stuffed animals to gnaw on)
All that to say:
YOU WON’T SLEEP.
Do you hate to be alone? Is it teething? Does your tummy hurt? Or are you too curious to sleep now that you’re crawling and standing?
This waking up a gazillion times in the middle of the night is exhausting your Daddy and me. And you’re obviously tired by the fight you’re putting up.
You’ve got me trying everything to soothe you. I’ve posted questions on forums and read books… I’ve got a few more tricks up my sleeve but it’s still 90 outside so my sleeves aren’t that long.
I’m all smitten with those big, curious eyes of yours. They are hypnotic.
But they never close.
I’m sure your eyelids are quite pretty too… if you’d just let me see them.
Your Zombie-like, Dark-circle-eyed, Caffeinated Mom
