Wordless Wednesday: A Beach Vacation Just Like Yours

by melissa on August 18, 2010 · 36 comments

Okay, so it’s technically WORDFUL Wednesday but hang with me a sec!

We hit the beach last weekend for a few days. My sister lives in Myrtle Beach so we had a free place to crash, had two extra hands and didn’t have to spend a zillion dollars on eating out.

So, how was my beach trip just like ones that you’ve taken?

Just like this…

You have a kid who will play in the sand until the sun sets (or they turn into a lobster) if you let them.

Or you sit your baby in a sand pit (ya know, just for fun).

You let go of the idea that your kid’s hands will only get SO clean while on the beach. A turkey SANDwich never hurt anyone.

You come to the realization that hair never looks quite the same once the wind gets to it.

Your baby takes a least one nap at the beach, oblivious to the fun his brother is having.

Your baby makes multiple (and almost futile) attempts to eat sand.

You try to capture the perfect family-at-the-beach shot… and somehow manage to get everyone looking at the camera.

And when your baby isn’t sleeping on the beach, he’s eyeing big brother while mama awaits next year, when they can REALLY play together in the glorious sand.

Too cute! Beach trips are definitely some of our kid’s favorites – they are always asking when we are going back to the beach.

That first pic is priceless!! I hope you blow it up real big & hang it in your house. We did a similar beach trip over the weekend. My first beach picnic … sandy, but not bad. Little Jimmy said it was the BEST LUNCH HE EVER HAD. So I think we did alright.

Thanks Alicia! I use Photoshop. These were simply edited with Camera Raw (when I open PS) and then I used an action from a set I bought from scrapbooker Maggie Holmes. It’s my fave action!

I love your wordy/wordless Wednesday. It’s been a long time since my baby was a baby at the beach so I have to admit I loved the little roo pics. I also love the fact that you brought your dog. My kind of gal.

Great pics!

My sister (who we stayed with) has a chocolate lab so it only made sense for the “cousins” to get to play together too!

Wonderful photos – and I like the story along with them. And my favorite is the one of, you guessed it, the baby about to eat sand. Priceless. Sounds like a wonderful day.

Heehee! I use Photoshop but Photoshop Elements is a good one to start with. Seriously, photo editing is addicting! After I adjusted white balance for these, the cool effect was done with a simple action I purchased. I just pushed a button and ta-da! Love the easy stuff!

Hey, your photos look familiar except neither of my children ever, ever in their whole entire short lives took a nap on the beach — though I always wish I could go back to those days and take one! One of my favorite things to do in the world!

I was surprised my little guy took one! He only took one nap on the beach though out of the three days we went. Better than nothing I say!

Loved the pics! My favourite is the sand eating pic. We go to the beach once a week and its a battle getting my little one to NOT eat sand!

Awesome pictures! I’ jealous – no beach for us this year – Baby just turned 3 months and we’ve been too busy juggling life with 2 under 2!

I hear ya! I don’t know if we would have made it this year if it weren’t for being able to stay at my sister’s house (and for having extra sets of hands). It’ll be easier next year anyway because by then the baby will be able to actually enjoy it a bit more!

What is it about babies eating sand?! Mine is 16-months and still does, and I cringe every time.

Sounds like a great vacation. Love the pictures!
