My Summer Adventure Bucket List: the Check-in

by melissa on August 13, 2010 · 17 comments

Ah yes, the summer is nearing its end so I thought I’d check in on my Bucket List and see what I need to hurry up and do before the summer is over.

First, let me say that it’s hot as (insert your favorite analogy here). And I lived in Phoenix for five years so I’m no stranger to heat.

Now that I’ve got my first excuse out of the way, let’s count the ways I’ve managed to be lazy this summer…

1. Take a trip to the beach (my sister lives in Myrtle and I’m inviting myself- hi sis!) (Doing this on Thursday- woot! Almost CHECK!)

2. Pick strawberries (Too hot)

3. Visit a splash park (Too expensive)

4. Teach Big Roo some more about swimming (Working on it- he’s learned to kick water in my face though.)

#4. We're making progress! (and goofy faces)

5. Go out on a boat (“I’m on a boat!” Sorry, can’t resist an Old Spice commercial reference. Hoping to do this sometime this month.)

6. Catch fireflies (Too lazy)

7. Go to the local natural science museum (We did this on Saturday! Big Roo was interested in about 50% of it. CHECK!)

8. Make an outdoor craft (My crafty meter has been reset to zero this summer)

9. Visit family in Atlanta (Short trip but I did it so naner naner. CHECK!)

10. Take a trip to the mountains (Too lazy- long drive with two kids)

11. Do something spontaneous (Again with the lazy. Oh wait, I jumped into the SITS Girls 31 Days to Become a Better Blogger challenge with ProBlogger. CHECK!)

12. Go camping in our backyard (Too much trouble)

13. Buy something from the farmer’s market (Forgot about this one)

14. Plant some more herbs (& use them) (Damn it on the lazy factor! In other news, we managed to kill our new tree. Good thing it has a warranty.)

15. Teach Big Roo to write his name (Ok, this is getting ridiculous. Maybe I should print this list out?)

16. Use our new grill as much as possible (The one that has to do with food- CHECK!)

17. Sit on the back deck and watch the sunset (Did this one! Hung out with the hubs, sipped a beer and watched the sunset. CHECK!)

18. Wish upon a star (Did I mention it’s been hot out, even at night?)

19. Walk the dog more often (Yes, we HAVE done this. He hated the 45 minute walk on Monday though- lazy dog. CHECK!)

20. Make homemade popsicles (No but I did buy a boat load of Edy’s popsicles from Costco this weekend.)

And the less-adventurous-but-on-my-list-anyway-list…

21. Scrapbook pictures of Little Roo (haven’t done squat since he was born) (I’ve done ONE scrapbook page this summer, but I did BUY some more scrapbook paper so that counts right? Sorta?)

22. Give myself a pedicure and actually keep paint on the toenails (I managed to wear away all the paint so I finally repainted those suckers. Pedicure? Well, I’ve rubbed smelly stuff on them a couple of times. Lame.)

23. Start a new section of my blog I’ve been noodling over (Oh! Oh! I full on did this one, homeys! It’s Momcomm Monday and I’m loving every second of it. CHECK!)

24. Take an online pen tablet class (I opened the class videos but haven’t actually walked through anything. I am DETERMINED to get this one checked off by fall.)

25. Watch a full movie without surfing the internet (CHECK! We watched Alice in Wonderland- the newer, creepier one. The Cheshire cat looks like he should be in that Soundgarden video Black Hole Sun.)

26. Start teaching Turbo Kick again (took a pregnancy hiatus) (CHECK! Taught my first class on Monday and rocked the house. I’m only teaching once a month due to scheduling issues but better than nothing.)

27. Get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (depends on how well #26 goes now doesn’t it?) (Still not in great shape but breastfeeding has saved my ass. I’m 8 pounds from pre-preggers weight. *fist pump*)

#28. Sneak peek of Big Roo's room (Full reveal coming soon)

28. Finish decorating the kids’ rooms (Hmmm, about 75% there on this one.)

29. Give some stuff away to charity (Started a collection of things to donate.)

30. Have a night out with my local bloggy friends (Not yet BUT we have something in the works.)

So what’s the tally?

Yes- 9

No- 10

In the works- 11

Wow, that’s pretty even huh? Maybe I’m not so lazy after all. No need to call the waaaabulance- I’ll stop making whiny excuses and what I can tick off before the end of summer.

Alright, I’m off the print this list out before the summer smacks me on the head.

What’s the best thing you’ve done this summer? Did you make a Bucket List?

We have the best of intentions, don’t we? I love your honesty! I’ve probably done about 50% of the things on my bucket list & feel like summer is flying by. We were hecka busy, though, so go figure! My favorite thing this summer was our trip to Yosemite. Watching the kids romp on my old stomping grounds just warmed my heart.

Oh I bet… that’s how I’ll feel when I take the kids to the Grand Canyon (Big Roo’s been there once but he was a baby)

Nice list! You’re doing great. The heat just zaps the energy so I’d say you’re ahead. :) My bucket list was the seven days weeks of summer post I did a few weeks back. I’ve done about half and I still have four weeks left, so I’m getting there. We’ll be knocking an aviation museum in Oregon and going swimming off the list this weekend. Yeah!

Oh, so many of your Summer Bucket List items could have been on mine, too! Yeah, on the “didn’t do” part. Homemade popsicles, pedicure (feet look horrid about now), trips, crafts, scrapbooks….oh heck, there’s always next summer!

I love the idea of keeping a bucket list and keeping track. And you live in AZ? I just moved from there! I lived there for over 20 years and I have to tell ya – I do NOT miss the heat. Not. One. Bit!

LOL, I love your list! I hope you have fun at the beach. I feel you on being to lazy to start any crafts, I haven’t had any motivation to be crafty this summer either, so don’t feel bad. Being a mommy to two kids is a lot of work, sometimes those things that we think we want to do at the beginning of summer just don’t actually become things we want to do once we are in full summer mode. Hope you have a great week!
