Oh, Thursday! You are just like Tuesday… but closer to Friday so better.
As I’m going through the day, I wonder “what would I have liked to see from my mother’s or grandmother’s typical day when she was my age?” I mean really, wouldn’t that be fascinating?
A receipt would show the price she paid for her groceries. A picture of her dinner would show the plates she used back then. A snapshot of her folding laundry would show what sorts of clothes people were wearing at the time. A note of what shows she watched at the time or how she felt at the end of a long day, All of this would have been mundane and seemingly boring to her at the time, much like some of what I’m doing may seem.
But wow, imagine our kids or GRANDKIDS looking back on this one day and seeing what life was like in the 10′s…. the 2010′s that is. THAT makes this week worth it.
Let’s get on with it, shall we?!
Little Roo had bathtime in the morning today instead of evening. Gives him that fresh baby smell… and marshmallows (Method baby lotion- rice mallow or something like that). Took two takes to get the bath done since he always pees in the water at LEAST once! Speaking of bodily function, what would a day in the Roo house be without more talk of poop or pee! Little Roo had a poop free zone all yesterday but made up for it by 8:30 this morning– there were THREE poopy diapers from in a two hour span. That’s how he rolls.
While Big Roo watched his morning show, Little Roo tried to watch too. Until I laid the smack down and flipped him back towards me. I will not let your eyes be scathed by the evils of Disney just yet little man. (ha)
Breakfast of champions. And yes the kid ate two whole waffles. The blueberry stuff was made from the blueberries we picked in our neighbor’s yard.
Um, that picture is in here just for cuteness sake. I mean seriously, look at him.
And this my friends is why babies shouldn’t sleep with blankets.
When I got home, there was a gift waiting from my dear dear friend from Arizona. It was full of all kinds of Gap goodness for Little Roo…
… and some cool cars for big bro.
This is what the typical dinner looks like from underneath the table. On another note, Big Roo ASKED for salad. We had just given him carrots instead of lettuce too and he pointed at my plate and said “I want some of that.” And yes, he ate it. (weird kid doesn’t like grapes but eats SALAD. No complaining here though.)
After dinner (when there’s time) we go on a walk through the neighborhood. We end up counting bunnies since our subdivision is full of them. Today we only counted four. The record? 11.
I (well, the baby and I) stole an hour away and headed to a tweet-up for a local mommy forum I’m a part of. Shout out to Triangle Mommies! Some of these ladies I only know through Twitter and TM so it was cool to meet. Little Roo cracked the ladies up trying to eat my milkshake- he seriously would lunge for it every time I took a sip, kicking his feet in excitement. Mean mama didn’t give him any. Oh, notice the lurker man outside the window? Crazy guy.
When I got home, Big Roo was apparently waiting for me to come home to tell me goodnight… awwww. He came downstairs when I came in and asked where I went and why… then changed the subject completely and said he wanted to do “swirlies.” Whaaa? He stood up on the bed and traced the “swirlies.” I guess we’ll be calling those swirlies from now on.
Another timeline for the heck of it
Since you guys like the timeline yesterday, I did another one. This one of Big Roo’s morning from wake-up until leaving for daycare.
7:01- Big Roo awakes and is yelling something from upstairs but stopped when Daddy Roo went to go check to see what he was saying.
7:02- He’s now downstairs. Me: “What were you saying?” Big Roo: “I’m not telling you.” Mmmkay.
7:04- Obligatory “baby baby” greeting at Little Roo who recently had a diaper change. Big Roo: “I smell poo poo.” Again, mmmkay.
7:07- potty and no tantrum!
7:09- brushes teeth
7:19- Daddy Roo “warms” his clothes, i.e. irons them because they’ve been downstairs for three days in a pile and got wrinkled
7:25- Saw his goodie bag from a weekend birthday party and refused to get dressed. He wants to play with the notebook party favor instead.
7:30- dressed!
7:31- transfer Mickey Mouse stickers from PJs to shirt (also part of the goodie bag)
7:34- gets waffles out of the freezer and puts them in the toaster
7:35- Big Roo: “Where are the brownies?” Me: “Huh? We don’t have any.” Big Roo: “We had them earLIer!” (um, like last week!)
7:39- breakfast while watching Chuggington- we also tried to sing the theme song
8:03- I try to get socks and shoes on him but his legs are sticky from the syrup. Go get wipe, clean him off and finish up
8:10- Daddy Roo packs the car and loads him in
8:11- They drive off as I wave good-bye the entire time (I was honked at by Daddy Roo for not waving for a SEC. Apparently, there were protests in the car that I wasn’t waving.)
My notes about the process:
- I’m really liking the timeline thing, especially when I just do a segment of the day, like bedtime here and a morning routine there.
- I made note of some big news today: BP has completely sealed the oil leak for now. I think it’ll be neat to look back and see big moments in current events with the little sliver of our lives
- I’m also keeping track of some memorabilia from the week. Things like: Netflix package, receipt from grocery store, preschool calendar, Big Roo’s artwork, copy of a recipe we made that week, etc.

I loved this week and I am sorry I haven’t commented more. Next time I will. I just love your pictures and reading about your day. I am so nosy when it comes to other moms and their days with their kids. It is so nice to see that we are very similar and that I am not alone in the activities I do with the kiddos when we are housebound.
Keep up the great work!
Hey- no probs! I’m nosy too – haha. I can’t wait to get it into an album.

I would love to see what my mom or grandma’s typical day was like. It’s so comforting to know that other moms have days just like mine.
Found you through MBC. Thought the advice you gave one of the members was really good, and I wanted to stop by. Super cute pics of your kids:)
Thanks for the sweet words!

I’ve loved this project and really enjoy your daily photos & timelines. I’m almost inspired to do it for my family. Almost! Maybe I’ll get really motivated this weekend and decide to go for it.
Send me an email if you decide to do it (and blog about it!). I think next time I may try a weekend or even just a weekday– one week is nuts!
