Yesterday, I wrote about Saturday’s winter wonderland adventure gone south. Day One in the snow was a mega-fail.
I wanted to try again on Sunday but was afraid that asking if he wanted to go play in the snow would be met with an emphatic NO. To my surprise, he nodded enthusiastically and said, “yah!”
I’m happy to report that on Day Two, we fared much better.
See? Now that’s a happy kid in the snow.
By day two, the snow had gotten a hardened magic shell over the fluffy powder. Big Roo’s first order of the day (after throwing his cars into the driveway) was breaking off the pieces. He proudly decided to call them “pizza” since they seemed to always break into perfect triangles.
After running up and down the sidewalk (him not me), I noticed our front porch had turned into a snow embankment. To Big Roo, this meant SLIDE!
He didn’t complain ONCE during our hour or so outside, even when he fell face down and looked up with snow crusting his eyebrows, lips and eyelashes. Now, that’s the adventurous Big Roo that I know!
Day One of the snow can suck it. Day Two is where it’s at! We got to do all the things I had hoped we’d try on day one.
Like making snow angels…
Learning the fine art of a good snowball…
And… well… this wasn’t on my list, but after falling in the driveway, rolling is apparently just the natural thing to do!
This is what snow days are all about.
So, did you get snow? What did you do for fun?

Success! lol There’s nothing better than playing in the snow. Well, maybe the beach – okay, there’s nothing better than playing outdoors!

Congrats on giving it another go, and getting success! As a parent, it can be tough sometimes to find the energy to try an activity again after the first time didn’t go well. Especially when you had high hopes for it, so great job trying it again. It looks like the whole family had a great time. We haven’t had snow here since, well, since I bought a snow blower a month ago! We normally get our best snow in the spring though, so I’m holding out hope for at least a few more great sledding days with our boys!
