And Then He Was Three (& an update)

by melissa on February 26, 2010

GUESS WHAT? I wrote this post on Monday night and planned to read over it one last time on Big Roo’s birthday (Tuesday) then post it live. Oh did life have other plans for me! I went into labor instead! Let me post this and then I’ll make my big announcement. I really enjoyed writing this post about Big Roo so even though it’s a few days old, I didn’t want it to go to waste!

Sometimes it feels like an instant that Big Roo went from this…

to this…

and then I remember the trip home, the diapers, the crying, the first coo, the first poo, tummy time, gripping toys, baby puke, gentle baths, crawling, crawling faster, teething, drooling, first taste of sweet potatoes, baby sign language, first steps, toddler sprints across the house, favorite books, new words, incessant giggling, incessant wriggling away from mama and dada, more teeth, ear infections, high chair became a booster seat, “walk walk walk” became “want to go for walk,” crib became a toddler bed, diapers became underwear, sentences became conversations… and here we are.

He’s THREE. And maybe it didn’t go as lightning quick as I thought. But I’ve remembered to savor it. To capture him growing up in pictures, to document his growing life history with words and to enjoy being mama to one clever, sweet, hilarious, rambunctious, loving and smart kid. Not a baby, but a kid. Wow. And my love for this kid is immeasurable. Happy Birthday, Big Roo.

I wrote a letter to my oldest on the eve of my second’s birth, too, long before I became a blogger. Thanks for sharing such sweet reminders of Big Roo’s babyhood.
