I'm Still Thankful… Even Though It's Monday

by melissa on November 30, 2009

After an extended weekend of rushing around my hometown to see friends and family, we’re back home… unpacking, unwinding, settling down. With all the hubbub, I neglected to write a “What I’m Thankful For” post on Thanksgiving. Not that I’m breaking any sort of rule but not posting one, but I enjoy actually sitting back [...]

Less Words Wednesday: Two years ago tomorrow…

by melissa on November 25, 2009

… this was Big Roo. We spent Thanksgiving at a friend’s house in sunny AZ. Before dinner, he had a chance to crawl on lush green grass but it turned out he didn’t think it was all so lush. He’d “crawl” without using his knees which was pretty darn funny.

For the longest time we wondered if our son was going to become sweetly yet unreasonably attached to an inanimate object better known in mom-land as a lovey. Would it be his soft yellow blanket lined with silk? What about the plush bunny his aunt bought him at the Grand Canyon? Heck, maybe it’d be something a little less [...]

When I started this blog a month ago, one of my goals was to review NC hiking trails that we trek to. Well, I haven’t been hiking this month! My head is down in shame, just so you know and can feel sorry for me. From seriously crappy weather to a family emergency that took us [...]

I mean I seriously went to REI’s website and checked how many REI stores were in town. I figured [...]

Less Words Wednesday- Mmmm, Canyony

by melissa on November 11, 2009

Big Roo’s first trip to the Grand Canyon back in 2007. He had to wear his blue/green striped PJs because we didn’t pack right for the trip and it was one of the warmest things we brought him.

Know Thy Limits, You Pregnant Hiker

by melissa on November 10, 2009

Why elevation and pregnant women from sea level don’t mix That pregnant hiker is yours truly. On my family’s trip to Denver in September to see my cousin, hiking was definitely on the list of things to do. I mean, how could you not trailblaze in the Rockies? We drove through beautiful Glenwood Canyon to [...]

Being allergic to most nuts, I have a heck of a time finding trail mix that doesn’t have almonds, pecans or other nuts that make me itchy and swollen. In fact, the glorious few that I can eat are peanuts, cashews and pistachios. I’ve never quite figured out why I can eat some nuts while [...]
